Finding a job as an American in Canada

Hi,

I am an American looking to move to Canada. What is the best way for me to find a job in Canada? I have training as an educator.

You're going to have a tough time -- in general, Canada has an excess of teachers. Disregarding the technical legalities of immigrating, I would suggest that your best bet is to look at remote schools, fly-in communities in the northern Prairies, places that are desperate for educators. If you can transfer your certification, maybe you would find someone to offer you a job and that could lead to some sort of temporary work permit/NAFTA working visa. I tried that in the late 1990s and had one community in northern Saskatchewan express interest -- and I didn't even have a teaching certificate, in addition to the obstacle of my being an American; but immigration was easier then.

Look, obviously employment-based immigration to Canada depends on details of profession and qualifications. You haven't said that you're a teacher, just that you have 'training as an educator'. Now you apparently want to work as a home health aide, but don't mention your education, professional experience, or qualifications. From this I'd guess that you don't have these, nor are you a certified teacher, and that your chances of immigrating are nil. If I'm wrong, why don't you check out the Live-In Caregiver Program and estimate your chances yourself?

I have training in both. I am a nursing assistant and teacher. I have worked in health education for three years. My highest level of education is a Master's
