hi
When i initially filed for my husband application, there was a question asking if i financially support him. And i didnt, so i replied no
But since then, i occasionally have helped him for a few things, rarely but for instance we bought a motor bike which i sent him money to help pay it off.

Should i worry about saying No, is there a way to update CIC, should i change that to yes now??

Thanks

I think if you send him money every month (regularly), that is more like you are financially supporting him. If you help him out occasionally, I don't think it's a big deal to send more information at this point.

You are in queue for an interview, right? When you get your interview date set up, maybe bring the receipts with you to show more proof of financial interdependency. Otherwise, I think at this point, it probably won't make a huge difference in how they view your application (i.e. make them waive the interview??) Does anyone else have a differing opinion on this, as I also didn't mention that my partner sent me money on one or two occasions through Western Union and I paid for a few of his plane tickets and he paid for accommodation on our vacations together and we never submitted receipts with our app either?

I wasnt asking this to help waive the interview. Someone else who was interviewed yesterday said they asked her for if they had joint bank accounts and proof she financially helped him

Thought it was odd. We dont have shared bank account. My husband is independent, i dont help him with food, or his daughters food and school payments he does this on his own, with his mother occasionally helping out.

I did however pay the monthly bike payments and paid the bike off as it was a gift i gotten him last xmas.

We don't have joint bank accounts either, as he doesn't live with me here and I can't get a joint account with him back home as a foreigner, but we do have joint credit cards, which we used to pay for plane tickets when we visited each other in the past. It's probably a good idea to bring receipts for gifts and if you helped him pay for his bike with monthly payments, knowing that someone else got asked these things. Are you thinking if you sent in these receipts beforehand, it might put them into a more favourable frame of mind about your relationship before the interview, if they are concerned about financial interdependency between you and your husband?

Do you have proof that you had been making the payments? Honestly, I wouldn’t come right out and say you bought him a motorcycle if they don’t ask about gifts. This extremely backfired on my friend who helped building a house with her husband because they questioned why it wasn’t in her name, and they decided that he was using her. I myself was helping support my husband by sending $100 every two weeks, nothing Major, and I sent all of my western union papers. I did write the small gifts that I did give but it was mainly just clothing or shoes. If you aren’t supporting him, I would say no and explain that you both keep fairly independent and you are unable to have joint account because he’s not in your country. My husband has been here a year and a half and we still don’t have a joint account! But thinking about this now, I wonder if they question why you don’t support him? I obviously don’t know your situation, but my husbands family was from a small town and extremely poor. Of course I wanted to help them but I also have my own problems here in Canada that needed to be taken care of before any of that!

I never said they questionned me. Someone else went for an interview and told me they wanted proof of cohabitation for whatever reason. I think its ridiculous, we dont live together yet, we dont have joint accounts and i am not financially assisting him at all. She said i might need to show other proof such as western union.
Maybe it is because she had Yes to that question on her application..... who knows!

Oh!! Cohabitation could simply be proof of visiting, such as if you stayed in hotels together, his house, etc! People question why you don’t stay at there house, for example, I never stayed at my husbands house, always at a resort because I wanted to take a vacation myself too! I just sent my confirmations from the hotels etc.

I guess it is like a job interview. Better to go overboard and anticipate everything they might ask. You probably have seen the lengthy interview question list that has been posted in this forum in multiple places. It's good for your husband to know all that info anyways! ;)

Good luck to you guys, hope you get a positive result when the time comes!

Sounds like you should be well prepared by the time the interview rolls around!

Good call!!! Nothing worse than resort food!

And now that you mention it, I saw an episode of border security when the woman coming home from visiting her husband, the border officer didn’t believe her because she didn’t stay at his house they get so technical!

That is so crazy. I get they might ask questions, but if I want to relax at a resort then I can lol
And let's be real here, Dominican is not the cleanest of countries. Don't get me wrong, I love it :) My friend from Canada worked there for a few years with a company and she was always sick! You can still get sick at the resort too for sure. I just don't see why they have an issue with whether you chose to stay at a resort or not. But again, who knows all the reasons they do the things they do and say and question lol!
