Hello!

I have a question regarding family sponsorship proof of financial capability. I have a family of 5 and I need to show that I can support them financially inorder to sponser them. My lawyer told me to file for 2007 notice of assessment ASAP. Can someone please tell me how long does it take to get the notice of assessment? I am in Vancouver. Also, is it better to file for 2007 or wait until 2008 return to file for sponsorship. I need my family to be here urgently. Do I have to show 2008 tax return also if the visas don't get approved by April 2009? Please help!!!

sweet,
Read the guide and the forum's past posts carefully. It states in IMM3900 under "Who Can Sponsor", income requirement (last point):

This condition does not apply if you are sponsoring only

* your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner who has no dependent children, or
* your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner whose dependent children have no children of their own, or
* your dependent child who has no children of his or her own.

Unless you are receiving government assistance or you are on welfare then you cannot sponsor. You cannot be rejected if the above conditions are met.

The document you need is the Option-C printout which can be ordered through Revenue Canada by calling them. Your Notice of Assessment is not the same document and it is not required by CIC. Read the checklists on additional documents. If you send your application before the end of this year then use your 2007 records but if you send it in 2009, then use your 2008 records.

Hope this helps!
