Hello Guys,

I am a Finance Manager form India and would like some useful insights about how the Finance and Accounts jobs market is in Canada. I believe most of the topics here relate to IT. Could anyone trow some light on the same.

Thanks in Advance.

Sorry to see no reply to your question. i am a chartered accountant from India with an MBA from US and having worked in US for over 10 years have found it very difficult to find a job in Canada. They do not even consider US experience or qualification. They would rather you spend more money in Canada and take a local certification and then apply for jobs. Though it is illegal to ask for canadian experience the hiring managers do ask for Canadian experience and also want you to speak with a Canadian experience if they want to consider you for a role. Most of the roles are filled by reference from current employees. I have lived in Canada for over 2 years now and work is on contract on a very basic role ..very tough to break into the job market unless you have a certification from Canada institutes.

Hi CAforCA,

Why you do not continue to work in US and get green card in US? Is it Canada better in US?

Thank you for your sharing information.

Hi All,

I will be moving to Canada in Sep this year and am into Financial Accounting. Qualified CMA (USA) and studying ACCA (UK)

I had made up my mind to move to Calgary, reason being my wife is a chemical engineer and she relates more to the Oil & Gas and related fields. However, Calgary economy and employment rate (3% up YoY) is obviously declining. It will take longer to find a job in same field.

Toronto on the other hand, is doing good with employment rate 18.3% up year on year this june. Competition is higher as Toronto is 3 times bigger in terms of the population. BUT again not sure how helpful is this indicator for Finance.

BUT I am not sure what is in there for Finance people.

Cost of living in Calgary is somewhat cheaper and weather wise I don't see much issues.

I have not looked at other options because in Calgary we have a friend and in Toronto i have a relative settled.

My main worry is in terms of job availability which place is better for finance people.. Calgary or Toronto?

Thanks!

Hi all

I am totally new to this site. I may be posting this at the wrong section but I would really appreciate any response to my questions or at least directing me to post these questions at the more relevant section.

I am planning to apply to one of these program
1) Master of Information program with Univerisity of Toronto
2) MBS with Univerisity of British Columbia
3) Master of Management Analytics

After graduating from one of the programs, I would like to apply for a job in Canada and live there.

From what I heard and researched, finding a job is very hard for immigrants.
Lack of "Canadian experience" and lack recognition of overseas education qualification are two of the biggest issues.

I would like to know, whether work experience in Canadian companies overseas would be consider sort of "Canadian experience"?

I have 8 years of work experience as Data Analyst including almost 3 years with RBC Capital Market, 2 years with Invesco, 3 years with J.P. Morgan.

I intend to develop a career in the field of Business Analyst or Project Manager in banking/ financial service environment.

I would also like to know, whether it would be more job for Data related jobs in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary or any other city in Canada?

Appreciate your response.

Dear CAforCA,

What sort of COURSE do you suggest for accounts & finance people to land a job? I have done my B.Com (hons) india, 9+ yrs of experience as account payable in an oil & gas co(MNC).I think i am not eligible to go for CPA, as they need 4 yrs degree. Pls suggest with your experience.

Thanks.
