Today I received a refund in the mail from CIC. I had no clue why it was issued, it only had a reference number and nothing else.
Printed on the back of the cheque was a telephone number so I took a chance and called it. To make a long story short, the number was for the finance department. Turns out I had overpaid my citizenship fee therefore I was due a refund.

The woman who answered (imagine that, a human being answered the phone :eek: ) was soooooo helpful. She was able to look at my file and tell me exactly what was going on with my application. I applied in Jan 2012 and have been in process since Nov 2012. She was able to tell me all my background checks were completed , she apologised for taking her time but just kept reading my file and saying "done, done, done, complete, done." She told me that my file was in Calgary and I am just waiting for a test date.

The refund was great, but after no info for 15 months I'm thrilled to know we might have a test date soon! :)

That's a good news, it seems we have exactly the same time line, I applied in January 2012, and it went in to proccess in November 2012, though I called in feb and was told my background check is been done...hopefully it's complete soon or my file might even be in Edmonton.

Did she say when your file was transferred? Also any web test you are using to prepare for the test, please share.

She said my file moved in March, I was so stunned that she was being so helpful that I didn't think to ask for the exact date.
It's just good to know I am in the system moving along....after so many months you start wondering if you haven't been "lost" in the shuffle.

As for preparing for the test, I haven't even looked at the book yet. I need to get on it and start reading some info on preparing for it.

@justmeinyyc :

You should really start studying that book real badly now. All you get is a week's notice for test (that's only if you're luck!). Here's the incentive for passing the test, Calgary offices mostly have same day oath ceremony too. So if one passes the test well and good.

@Onyex2012 :

Finally the Edmonton guys got a citizenship judge, hopefully all the delays be cleared now.

Congrats you both.

It really make sense to start studying the book. I will probably read it over and over just to make sure i fully remember everything for the test. If anyone though have any recommended practice test websit please share.
