Finally get everything together for filing, discover FBI check is out of date

Getting all the proper paperwork together at the right time has been a nightmare given all the delays and time it takes to get things in the mail.

On advice from these forums, I applied for my FBI criminal background check very early since it took the longest. Since then I have been delayed due to needing to get a book-style passport since immigration told me that my US passport card would not allow me to become a landed immigrant since they need to 'stamp something'. So that delayed me over a month waiting for the book so I'd have the proper passport number to input on my forms.

Now I go through the immigrant guide to make sure everything's ok and I discover that for god knows what reason the police certificate is only valid for 3 months. This is not mentioned anywhere else that I have seen. My Immigrant Document Checklist does not mention this fact. The FBI background check letter says nothing about expiry, nobody here mentioned the scant 3 months either... given how long it takes to get all this stuff together how do they expect all the stars to align like this? I am beyond frustrated.

So what do I do? Submit with a FBI letter that's 4 months old and pray, or wait 2 more months for another one and by that point risk having my medical examinations go out of date by the time they actually get around to processing my application? Which would delay me more? Has anyone experienced this maddeningly frustrating dilemma?

If they do put a hold on my application due to the inexplicable 3 month deadline for the background check, how many months can that delay me? More than having to re-do my medical midway through the process?

That thread made me so relieved I almost cried. Thank you so much!

Dealing with all of this conflicting bureaucracy has been the most stressful thing in my life. Thank you for your help.

Your FBI check is valid for 1 year as long as it is received at CPC-Missisauga no later than 3 months after it was issued.

Some persons have been fortunate enough to have their package not returned to them when accompanied by one that was more than 3 months old (I believe it was about 4 months old when they sent theirs). What you can do, however, is cover yourself by attaching a page explaining that you will apply for another because you should have submitted the current one before it was 3 months old but could not do so due to circumstances.

You will have a new one before they even assess the sponsor for eligibility and you could then forward it to your visa office to show that you have a currently valid one available.
