hello, i am a final year medical student from england and would like to work in canada as a doctor. I am really confused by the steps i will need to go through in order to come over and wonder if anyone is in a similar situation/ has gone through the process already and could give any advice?

this is my understanding so far- i need to pass the mcc exam- is this very difficult?!
then i would need to apply for a residency programme with a university and then i think i need to pass another set of exmas- MQE part 1 and 2 but are these later when i have done my residency programme?

then as for immigration- is a temporary visa ok and how hard are these to get?

thank you, i know there are lots of questions but i am very confused!

1. Very hard for a foreign trained physician to get the residency, which is usually the stumbling block. Less than 8% of foreign MDs are able to get a residency even though they have PR status.
2. You may wish to read this report http://www.mun.ca/harriscentre/Reports/IMG-Atlantic_Metropolis-FINAL.pdf although it is a couple of years old and refers to the Atlantic provinces, it is pretty germaine.
3. You should read this regarding the MCCE http://www.img-canada.ca/en/licensure_overview/mccee.html Your first step would be to write in the UK to see if you can pass before you take any further steps.
