I'm intending to visit Canada for a brief period soon in order to land. I've already given notice at my job and I'll be using annual leave to visit Canada (i.e. I won't technically be unemployed for another couple of weeks after landing). However my final paycheck will arrive after landing (but before leaving the country again).

I don't intend to stay: we've got a lot of things to clear up at home and we're not ready to move for another year or two.

What steps should I take to ensure I don't get deemed resident for this tax year? My initial thoughts are to avoid setting up a bank account, SIN card, drivers license.... Not getting provincial healthcare goes without saying (we'll have travel insurance for the period anyway). What about the PR Card? Would applying cause me to be deemed resident? Or are any efforts futile and I'll be deemed resident no matter what?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
