Hello Team

I have a query around the Work history. I have 12+ years of experience. 9 years in one organization but holding different roles in different teams. Then moved to another organization and been here for the last 3 years.
My query is:
1) What is the suggested number of years of experience which I should fill up in the work history?
2) I may get a reference letter from the first organization but the NOC will not be the same for different roles and the role description might not be mentioned explicitly for all 4 teams - so what should I do for that?
3) Will adding more experience enhance my chances of getting into the pool quicker?

Please help!

1. You add the experience in "Work" section, for which you are claiming points, for other work experience, for which you are not claiming points, you should add it to your personal history section.
2. Ask for reference letter in which all your job title and description is written along with salary + benefits (if any) and number of hours per week. It's fine to have job titles/profiles/NOC's. Under FSW, one of your NOC's should have at least 1 year of continous work experience.
3. It doesn't matter whether you have 3 years of work experience or 30, you will get the same points. 1 and 2 years of work experience gets same points, 3 and above gets same.

As soon as you submit your profile, you are in the pool, it depends upon your CRS, whether you will get an ITA or not. Entering the pool is one thing and getting an ITA is another.

You can fill it like this [just an example]:
University/College Name: Hindu College, University of Delhi.
City : New Delhi

This way, you mentioned the college as well as the university. City should be where you actually studies. If you studied in a college which was in Mumbai, but your college was affiliated to a university in Nagpur, your city would be Mumbai, not Nagpur.

So this means Reference letters are not required for the ones which I will mention in the personal history section.
Can you please share the link where I can see the points for number of years?
Many thanks in advance

I have overlapping experience.

For the same 2 year period I have been employed and self employed at the same time. I got reference letter for the employed one and for the self employment I only have a small portion of the clients letters because they were often small clients buying one off services.

Should I claim both or can I claim only employment? I am thinking that if I omit self employment from EE profile can they refuse me on grounds of misrepresentation? On the other hand if I include it can they refuse me on grounds of insufficient proof? (note that I will already have enough experience via my regular employment.

Now only thing pending for me is Work History point. Few more questions related to it are as follows - please help me with the answers experts:

1. Under Primary occupation, what year/month needs to be mentioned --
It is stated in the form that If the "primary occupation" is:
  • a qualified trade (four-digit code begins with 632, 633, 72, 73, 82, 92), this is the date they became qualified to practice on their own in Canada. (For example, when they moved from apprentice to being a licensed tradesperson.)
  • any other job, this is the date they first obtained the minimum education or training stated in the NOC description. (Note: if the NOC only states high school, this is the date they graduated.)
So what should go in there -- the experience for which I will be getting the reference letter from the organization or the day when I started working actually after my Bachelor's degree. The NOCs' are different for my last 12 years - So please help me address my confusion.

No reference letters are required for the work experience you are not claiming points for.

You can enter the month and year of your convocation or when you got your final graduation results

If you are not claiming points for self employment, you can mention that in personal history. You don't have to upload any reference letters if you are not claiming any points.

You can claim points for self employment, provided that you were incorporated, have client reference letters along with proof of payments.

Overlapping of job is not a problem, however, you can claim full-time experience for upto 40 hours a week and not more than that. If you were employed for 40 hours a week and did self employed simultaneously with your job, for let's say another 40 hours a week. Though, that amounts to 80 hours a week, which would be equal to 2 years worth work experience, however, it will be counted only as one.

Really appreciate your quick reverts. Leme give you a brief back ground here please

Education History:
Bachelor's degree completed - May 2004 - Got ECA done for this one. Will claim points for this. Degree awarded Feb, 2005
Did Networking Diploma of 6 months from August 2004 till Feb, 2005 - No ECA done for this one. Should I mention this in Personal History??

Work History:
Project Management Experience -- Will get Reference letter for last 3.5 years from my current organization.
Prior Technical and Project Management Experience - Thinking of not claiming those years as those were with different organization and fall under multiple NOCs' - Should I mention them in detailed format in Personal History??

So basic question is -- for whatever we are not claiming points, be it education or work history, we should mention it in Personal History? Am I correct in stating that?

Yes, in general, you put everything in personal history for experience/education you are not claiming points for.

Your work experince, for which you are not claiming points, should also go into personal history.

Also, you should get an ECA done for your Networking Diploma, if you get an ECA for it, you can claim points for under 2 or more degree, this will get you more points than bachelor degree.
