Hello Members,

Recently I have applied for Canadian citizenship. I made an error not to include with the application a "proof of English proficiency".
I assume the application will be returning soon. ( but don't know when exactly)

My question is would you recommend I file in another citizenship application with results of CELPIP test , before the first application is returned, because I am afraid by the time it is returned, the new law would be in effect...
I could include in the second application a letter stating that the first application has an error, please don't process it..

Have you seen this happen before?

I would really appreciate you help on this matter.

I'll recommend you to do exactly what you have stated above.
Attach a letter to explain why you have sent another. At this point you are pretty sure the 1st application will get returned, so send in another and you have nothing to lose.
Don't forget to send them the same fee receipt.

You shouldn't send 2 citizenship applications for same applicant.

When did you mail your application? Now a days applications are returned within 3 weeks.

Alternatively, if it gets accepted (which is happening around 2 weeks now a days), you can send the language proof along with a cover letter and application reference, so it could be added to your file.

Sending 2 applications will cause you more grief.

thank you for the reply.

just to be clear on what you said, did you mean to tell me that the fee receipt on the first application will be accepted by them? that is I don't have to pay any fees for the second application??

On another question, assuming I got a letter from the university I got my bachelor degree from ( located outside Canada), stating that the teaching language for the courses is English along with an official transcript from the university ( in English) along with Québec equivalence of my degree, will this be enough evidence that I am "proficient in English" or you think I have to do and send the CELPIP test?

I really appreciate your feedback on this...many thanks jrjayl

Yes, AFAIK, if the first time they did not accept your application, they will not use your fee receipt and it will be returned.
I will still recommend you to call CIC to confirm it, so as to be sure.

According to the application guide, as long as the degree is from an English-teaching program and is a bachelor's, it should be qualified as a language proof.
Personally, I think if you are not sure, send CELPIP results as well, just tag both documents as "language proof" with a post-it.

Good luck to you.

My application was received on April 24th, 2015.

so you are telling me the application (if was to be returned) won't take longer than May 15th?

My only concern is not to fall under the new law. (which according to a phone conversation I had yesterday with the CIC will be on June 19th)

thank you jrjayl!

I have scheduled the CELPIP test yesterday to be done on May 15th in Manitoba though I live in Quebec.

I guess i will have to wait for results of test, then send another application before the new law comes in effect.

the university i got my bachelor's degree from operates under a charter from the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. I really am confused, how could this not be a proof of English proficiency language!! along with my Quebec equivalence of my degree?

If you graduated from a U.S. university, a copy of your diploma, or (to be safe) a copy of your diploma with transcripts, should be sufficient. There should be no need to take a language test.
