Hey everyone, question;
I completely blanked out and forgot about the CRA. I married my wife on July 31st, 2018 and updated my CRA status to married in December (through the online website). I could not say I was married in July as it wouldnt let me go back in time. Is this ok? Do I need to call CRA and give them the date I was married?
I then filed my 2018 taxes. My wife arrived here for an inland sponsorship in January of 2019. She just visited me in Canada during 2018. I used turbotax, filled in my wifes sin number as 00000000. I did not claim any spousal supporr for her as she had her own job in Mexico and I recieved a normal tax return today(one I generally get every year). Should I of claimed her income that she made in Mexico? I misread it on Turbotax and assumed it was for money she made in Canada, so I put zero.
My wife also informed me she will not know exactly how much she made til she recieves her tax forms from Mexico in April.
I've read posts on here but have read many different opinions. Any suggestions?
