Hello:
My wife landed and became PR in mid-January 2014. Does she have to file for her tax return even if though she did not work, or was physically here in Canada in 2013? I really appreciate any help. Take care and God Bless?

No - she doesn't. However her income from 2013 should obviously be reported on your tax return.

Hi scylla:
Thans for your reply. So, i will report her income as $0, since she did not work or earned money here in Canada during 2013? Right?

You need to report her global income - not just Canadian income.

She doesn't have to file it. However my wife had to file hers for time she was in Canada waiting for PR and when she landed as PR. She didn't have any income but had to file taxes so that we can get child benefits.

If you don't have any children, then filing taxes for your wife is not needed. However if you have children, your wife will need to file taxes so she can get child benefits credits.

I had to file a $0 income tax return for my husband because BC provincial medical (BC PharmaCare) requested that piece of information.
