Hello all,

My fiancé is a Swedish citizen and works from home as a freelancer for a Canadian customer service company (video games). He is paid in his Swedish bank account, but his pay is issued from Canada to start with (as it is a Canadian company). His client, however, is a video game company based in France. We both want to live together in Canada for a few months before we get married (I am moving out of my parents house soon).

He has visited Canada three times for about a month or more each time, all on ETA, as the Visitor Visa was not necessary. Can he still work here on an ETA for more time, say 4-5 months, without applying for a Work Visa?

Additionnal info: he can not apply for any youth programs as he is over 30.

Thank you!

He cannot work in Canada while on an ETA since he works for a Canadian company. Doing so will be classified as working illegally.

He would need an approved work permit to be able to work for them while in Canada. To obtain a work permit, his employer would first need to obtain an approved LMIA.

Thank you for your answer! He will ask about the LMIA.

Another question, though. If he finds a job in Sweden from which he can work abroad, would he be able to work in Canada for a Swedish company?

Yes - then he would be fine. Provided that company has no clients / customers in Canada.
