Few questions regarding my application

So I'm going to be applying for PR under the CEC option and I've got a few questions...

1. So they want to do a security clearance from your home country for places you've lived for more than 6 months after you've turned 18

I moved to Canada 1 month after I turned 18, and I've gone back home for a summer semester which is under 4 months.. so I've never technically been out of canada for more than 6 months after turning 18. Now days I just go for a week or 2. (I'm from St.Maarten, which is a small island in the Caribbean -- getting a security clearance from there will take another 3 or 4 months so do you think it'd be okay to not include it considering I met the requirements in a weird way lol?)

2. So my Work Permit expires October 2012, and so does my SIN number. Now I know if you apply for your PR and your permit expires, you can still remain in the country (is it a certain amount of time? or unlimited?) till you can get your application sorted out. But my main question is, do you lose the ability to work completely? That would be horrible :S

3. Lastly... when people say it takes 10 months for application to be processed, does this mean that it can be up to 10 months till EVERYTHING is complete and you get an acceptance from them to become a permanent residence? Or is it something else?

Thanks to anyone who can help out! Great forum btw!

Yes but... while technically you would not require the PCC, they can request one at their discretion, and they likely will. If you wait for them to request it, and it takes that long... you see where I'm going... If you are otherwise ready to submit your application, go ahead and submit it, but I would also be trying to get that PCC ... when you receive it, you can add it to your application once you receive your file number...

When your work permit expires, you have to either apply for a new work permit, a change in conditions for temporary residence as a visitor (usually 6 months), or leave Canada. You cannot just "stay". There is a grace period of 3 months after the expiration of your work permit during which you can apply to restore status and simultaneously apply for a new work or visitor permit - expensive option, and frowned upon... but in answer to your main question - yes, you loose the authorization to work if your work permit expires.

So your best option is to expect to apply for a work permit renewal. Tho October 2012 should be plenty of time, if you apply now.

Understand that current processing times reflect the processing times of applications submitted 10 months ago, and not current processing conditions. It will likely be longer than 10 months if you submit now. Processing times are from the receipt of application by CHC-Buffalo.
