Hi Everyone,

Apologies if this has been asked before. I've tried searching the forum but couldn't find the answer anywhere.

Basically, I would like to know how much money I will need for the whole EE PR process and at which stages they ask for the money.

It is my understanding that it is free to set up an EE profile. Then when you get an ITA you will be asked to pay fees and show proof of funds. (As well as pay for IELTS, Medical etc)

-When do you need the proof of funds? Before you enter Canada at the border of before you are granted PR? Also how soon after receiving the ITA do they ask for it? It is $11,000 for 1 person?

-When do you need the rest of the fees and what are they? I looked on here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/fees/fees.asp

Is it:
2. Applications for Electronic Travel Authorizations, visas and permits
Economic classes (including Express Entry)
Federal Skilled Workers, Quebec Skilled Workers, Federal Skilled Trades, Canadian Experience Class, Caregiver Program and Provincial Nominees Principal applicant 550

A: Fees at the time of eAPR is all what you pay...you can defer the RPRF for later while your application is under process and passes a certain stage, when they ask for it.

A: e filing of PR Application is eAPR and RPRF is Right of permanent residence fee.
Last question, how long do they give you to submit all of this when you accept the expression of interest?
A: I guess 30 calandar days.

Just to clarify one point:

It is true that it is free to set up an EE profile. However, you need your IELTS results and your ECA (if you don't have a Canadian degree) before you can set up your profile.

It goes like this:

Before EE profile creation
1. Pay for first language test (typically IELTS) and second language test (optional)
2. Pay for ECA

After ITA and before eAPR submission
3. Pay for medical & police certificates
4. Pay for document translations (if some of you docs are neither in English or French)

Upon eAPR submission
5. Pay application fee
(6. Pay Right of Permanent Residence fee - optional at this stage).
Also: Need to demonstrate that you have minimum required funds at this stage

After eAPR submission and before passport request (PPR)
6. Pay Right of Permanent Residence fee (you will receive a request by CIC if you haven't paid upon eARP submission, typically when your application is in its final stages).

Upon PPR
7. Pay for minor things like passport photos and courier charges

Landing in Canada
Again, you need to demonstrate that you have minimum required funds (directly to the border officer).

I am wondering about the proof of funds.... I am on 22k a year so OK-ish but have no savings yet. If my parents 'gift' the $12164 to me so it suddenly appears in my bank account and I write a letter of explanation that it came from them, do you think the visa officer would accept this?

You're welcome.

As for your question: yes, gifting the money is a possibility but it requires an affidavit and a few other prerequisites to make sure this gets accepted. There are many, many threads on this topic, just do a search. I personally wasn't in the situation of requiring a gift, so can't give you the details.
