Fee Payment/Photo requirements

I'm sorry if you think I ask the stupid question. I just want to make sure that I understand it correctly because English is not my first language.

If I'm sending my application to Buffalo. When I submit my application, do I have to pay the fee right away? If so, I have to make a money order of $550 payable to "Canadian Consulate General", is that correct?

As for the photos, if the place I took the photos didn't stamp when the photos were taken, would it be ok if I wrote down the date of it using my handwriting. Could you please clarify?

That will be fine, don't forget you have to put your name and dob and the date taken on 1 photo only.
