Hello everyone, I really hope you can help me with this as I can't find enough information online.

Right now I'm in Canada on a Post Graduation Work Permit. The permit will expire pretty soon and a friend of mine, who owns a business, gave me a job but both of us are confused about the steps to take for me to stay longer. I, particularly, have the goal of eventually becoming a permanent resident.

The original plan was to get an LMO and then an extension of my work permit, to complete the required 12 months of experience and then apply for residency through Canadian Experience Class. But now there's the new Federal Skilled Worker program, and I'm wondering, should I take that path instead?

Which one do you recommend? Take in mind that I'm working currently as a marketer, which is not on the FSW list. I do have a lots of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, which IS on the list.

I'm so confused, please help. Should I go for an extension of the work permit, get more experience, and then go for Canadian Experience Class, or should I go with the Federal Skilled Worker program right away?

Keep in mind that no matter which route you take for the permanent residence application, that does not give you a work permit. If your PGWP is expiring soon, your employer should apply for the LMO so that you can apply for a new work permit and continue working.

(Possible exception - some provincial nominee programs do provide for work permits, but those usually take some time to process).

You COULD apply to both (and likely the PNP). I would suggest you look at the Document Checklist for both programs - you'll see how much simpler the CEC application is, and you can decide if you really want to go through the FSW application process.

Thank you very much! I didn't know I could apply to both at the same time!

It seems I should focus on CEC for now. Thank you once again!

CEC is the fastest one to apply, and it is not complicated than FSW application and points.
