Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hi People,
Its my first my post at this forum, I have a question if anybody would be kind to answer.

I have come to US on a worker(L1 visa) in February, 2010 and have a visa till September 2011 (1.5 Years in total).
Can I use New York or Buffalo as my processing office for skilled immigration application.

Refer to the link:
cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/skilled-mission.asp

There it says following about the selection of visa office:
Determine which Canadian visa office is responsible for:

* the country in which you are residing, provided you have been lawfully admitted to that country for at least one year; or
* your country of nationality.

My question is what does "lawfully admitted" means here. Do I have to be in US for over a year to apply or do I need to have a visa of US for over a year to apply from US, instead of my country of citizenship.

I don't want to take a risk of going back and applying from home country.

Thanks

Yes you can apply from US. Lawfully admitted means that at the Port of Entry in US, they have given you minimum 1 year or more to stay in US.

Thanks a lot for the quick turnaround, I was really hoping and praying for what you have just told me :)
I am going to try and get on to filling the application as soon as I can now and hoping that it will be quicker to process from here than back home.

Thanks once again

Buffalo seems to be one of the slowest offices, so you might be better off applying from home, but that's just my opinion.
