Hey everyone,

I received a medical request for my wife on Feb 09, 2019. They also sent a link which tells me all about the clinics that I can visit for the medical exam, the process, documents you need to take with you etc etc. I live in a small town in the far north of Manitoba and my closest physician is about 800kms (8 hours away) from my home town.

It says in the link "If the nearest Panel Physician offering services in your preferred official language is located more than 250 kilometres or 4 hours from where you live, please contact the IRCC Call Centre to find out how to access immigration medical examination services in your preferred official language.

Please have the following information for an alternative doctor when contacting the IRCC Call Centre in the above circumstance:

  • the doctor's name,
  • address,
  • telephone number,
  • fax or email address,
  • preliminary agreement from the prospective doctor that they will perform the medical exam.

So now I'm planning on calling the IRCC Centre and request that I be allowed to see the doctor from within my home town. Fingers crossed!

I have to ask one thing, has anyone done their medical exams yet? If so, what does it roughly cost?
My wife obviously does not have her health coverage yet and I'm curious to know if we would have to pay upfront or if they would just bill us?

I did my medical in Winnipeg. its not covered by Manitoba health so it doesnt matter if shes covered or not. Cost me about $300. You pay it directly to the doc and lab

Were you an in-land applicant?
Also, did you have to do the x-ray?

That exemption is based on the Official Languages Act. It is not based on distance. You should be planning to make the trip to the closest Panel Physician.

It's usually between $200-$300 in Canada. You pay upfront. The x-ray is mandatory.

Perfect. It's great that you had your process done in 6 to 7 months.
Thanks for the feedback :)
I will be coming to Winnipeg next week!
