Fear of Misrepresentation for not declaring Internship in my own EE

I am a PR in Canada and now in the process of sponsoring my wife. When I did my Masters degree, My research thesis was sponsored by a company and they were paying me approx 500 CAD a month for 9 months (of the 24 months education). These 9 months was also part of my curriculum at the university. I had not declared anything about this company in my own PR application under 'Personal History'. They were not my employers, so I didnt think it was necessary to fill it in the EE form at that time. Also there was no option to declare such a relation in the EE form. So I just filled in this time period as educational activity and gave only my university name.

Now I am filling my wife's Sponsorship application and it has this IMM 5532 (Part A 1) where I have to declare my employment history and mention how I supported myself during unemployment. Obviously this company was never my employer. They just sponsored my thesis. But I have to also fill in how I supported myself during my unemployment periods (when I was a student)

Will it be a problem if I now declare that I was being paid by this company during my studies ? Will this be in conflict with my own personal history and let IRCC think I misrepresented there ?

If I do not declare I was being paid by this company in this period won't that also be misrepresentation? So either way I am trapped ? :(

Can someone help me how I handle this delicate situation?
