I submitted my FBI Records Check with the application back in August 2016. I received a letter today from IRCC requesting a Police Records Check but stating that I have already submitted the requested information to disregard the letter. Is this a standard letter sent out to all applicants or do I need to request a new FBI records check which will take up to 14 weeks, which is over the required 60 day limit. Any help would be appreciated. I tried to call IRCC but was not connected to an operator due to too many calls.

I believe the FBI background check is only valid for 6 months. Mine is 3 months old so I'm getting ready to order a new one in case they request it. It doesn't really takes 8-10 weeks for most people.

Use a channeler. Takes 2 weeks.

All PCCs (including the FBI IHSR letter) must be issued within 6 months of CIC receiving it/them, if you are still residing in the country from which it was issued. For persons in Canada, they are valid indefinitely, since they no longer expire (as of a couple of years ago, I believe, when CIC changed the rules). No need to order another one, unless you have money to burn. ;)

Many people are receiving letters regarding a PCC and it appears to be a mass mailing going to all applicants. If you're certain that yours has already been received, there's nothing to do.

Is it okay for an American living in Canada to use a channeler?
Yes, but the channeler will only mail the letter to a U.S. address. The recipient can then forward the letter (unopened, of course) to you in Canada.

You cannot use live scan prints, since they cannot be transmitted across the international border electronically. You'll need the digitized prints either printed onto the FBI FD-258 (or is it 285) card directly, or use the ink and roll method. There are plenty of places in Canada to have your prints taken, including your local Commissionaires office.

If you use ink and roll, I suggest having a second set of prints taken on a second card, just in case there's an issue with the first set. It's probably another $10 or so and money well spent, IMHO.

Good luck!
