My wife lives in Bangladesh and she was in US for 2 years for her graduate study. It looks like the background check from FBI can take upto 16 weeks. So I am planning to have her apply for FBI PCC early. I had few questions-

1. Is there any way to expedite the process? 16 weeks is too long!
2. Is it okay if she takes her own fingerprint in the fingerprint pad ? She didn't find any fingerprint technician in her hometown. Is it too complicated? It'll be aweful if FBI rejects the fingerprint after waiting so long.

1. No, as far as know. Mine took around 12 weeks, done earlier this year.
2. You need to be experienced in this, otherwise FBI will refuse to issue certificate due to fingerprints quality problem. Keep looking for someone who's done it hundreds of times (private detectives, forensics techs, etc). Or risk wasting precious weeks.

1. The process takes around 12 weeks, and then you wait for another few weeks for the delivery, only in case it will be shipped abroad. FBI uses the cheapest delivery option - First Class Mail. You can speed up the process by selecting a US delivery address. That way someone in US can receive it and then resend it with air mail, so you won't have to wait for 3-4 weeks for the delivery of results.

2. You can't do it yourself, it's pretty difficult to do. You need special ink and special order of placing your fingers. Try looking for the UN IOM (International Organization on Migration) office in your country, they do it for 30$.
