FBI Clearance Letter for study permit

Hello! :)

I'm a U.S. citizen, now in Calgary on a visitor visa, waiting for my study permit before school starts in September. I submitted my study permit application several weeks ago via mail to the Los Angeles CIC office, and I finally got a response today.

They're asking for an original FBI clearance letter to continue processing my application. The problem with this is the time frame--they're demanding they receive the letter within 15 business days.

Is this even possible? Is there any person I can talk to or amount of money that can get this clearance letter to the L.A. office within 15 days?

What's the fastest way I can get this processed--should I send my fingerprints by mail to an "FBI-Approved Channeler" in the states, or find an organization here in Calgary that will take my fingerprints and submit the application on my behalf (I found one, but I'm worried the processing time will take longer than if I use an "FBI-approved channeler")?

Thanks a bunch :)

You inform them the impossibility to the 15 days deadline due to the FBI process & plead for more time u hope to respond to their demand. They will surely grant ur request

Thanks for your reply, I will definitely do this :)

I made some phone calls, and I basically got the answers to my questions in my original post. The customer service rep at the FBI said their processing takes several weeks (4-6 I believe), if the fingerprints are sent directly to them. I then called some of the FBI-approved channelers and they said once they receive my fingerprints from me, they receive a response within 24 hours and can have it mailed to the L.A. office very quickly. So I may even be able to get it to them within 15 days! :)

So for anyone in the same situation, that sounds like your best bet :)

I had a very similar situation where I was asked to furnish a canadian RCMP clearance within a set time. I emailed CIC requesting additional time which they were kind enough to give. I then contacted a private firm (fingerscan ca) which helped me get my RCMP fingerprints within 10 days.
