Alright, so this might seem like a stupid question..... I am sponsoring my American husband and we are currently finishing up his paperwork and planning his medical and FBI Clearance. I live in Ontario and he is here visiting at the moment which is why we are trying to get it all done before he leaves again. I am wondering where to get his fingerprints done and what the actual process is. I had booked him an appointment at our local police department but they told him because he does not have an address here that they cannot do it? Is there something silly that I'm missing? Is there a letter I need to bring with me? We printed off the fingerprint cards from the FBI site and brought them with us. Am I right in thinking that we just get someone to print him and then WE send the physical prints to the FBI? They aren't actually doing anything other than taking his prints? Please someone help! I am starting to get frustrated with all this.

Thanks so much

You should be able to go to any police station or RCMP office, and they will do it for you, visitor or not.

You would think..... But they said he needed proof of living in their jurisdiction? Is there maybe something we can print off to bring with us (besides the fingerprint card) to show? I found a form called "Fingerprints Request Letter" I just don't know what the client ID number would be?

Thanks again

If they are refusing then you likely won't get them to do it, since he is only a visitor. He can get his prints done when he is back in the US and then just send them to the FBI address. He will have to wait for 6 weeks regardless before getting it back anyway so it shouldn't make too much of a difference. I am also a US citizen sponsored by my Canadian husband and that is how I did mine.

I'm here in Quebec with my partner and I went to the police station here and they did it for me, they charged me 60 dollars and after 3 minutes, it was done!

Right away I sent it to the FBI. Now I'm waiting for it :)

We found a private agency that we will try out. I think it was just some strange law in my city. They wanted proof that he lived here! Ugh hello, why do you think we're applying? So he CAN eventually live here

My wife needed the FBI clearance as well as she was a resident of NJ for 3.5 years before moving to Canada. She was able to go to a private company in GTA that provided the electronic print out of fingerprints and we sent it to FBI. 6 weeks later, we gotten the letter from FBI to use for application. Not sure why they require proof of living in their jurisdiction. We never had to provide that to FBI.

They should appear on the bill the moment they charge it to your credit card. They are supposely working on your request.

We didn't use credit card for FBI. We sent them a money order to process the request.

Im a bit worried cause someone said that since we have canadian credit card, they maybe be not processed.
I don't know why would that happen.

Not to worry. They will accept all credit carts regardless of country of origin. The credit card will simply charge a foreign exchange fee for it and show canadian fund equilvant. The fact it hasn't been charge to your account means they haven't open your application to start the process, hence the 6-8 weeks for it.

They will charge you at the same time they look into your print file. Mine actually charged at about 5 1/2 weeks, at almost the exact 6 week mark I have my results in my mail box at home. Don't stress it, but when you see the charge on your account, you should get them as soon as Canada Post gets around to delivering them. :D

Due to the government shutdowns the FBI might take a lot longer! I wasn't planning on waiting for the results before I sent in my application to begin with but do you think I should add the explanation about the shutdown as well? I know it will resume once it's back to normal, but thought maybe I should add that fact as well.

Call around to a few stations. We had to drive about 45mins to get to a station that would do it here.
