FBI Check & Police Clearances?

I am a little confused as to what exactly needs to be done and included in the application. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I need information in regards to the fingerprinting, FBI clearance and police clearances.

Also, I was under the impression that the police clearances were supposed to be from every STATE my husband has lived in, but the form simply states from the COUNTRIES. Do we need them from every state or just a general one for the United States?

At this moment CIC only requires for FBI background check if the applicant lived in the State for more than 6 months after turning 18 years old. The state clearance is not required but some of us decided to get it anyway in case they ask for it. The state comes rather quickly but FBI will take weeks and months for some people.

For the FBI you need to have your fingerprints done. It can be done on cardstock or regular printer paper. I simply printed out the form on the FBI's website and had my fingerprints done at my local police station. I was charged 15.00 to have my fingerprints taken. The good news for me was the fee was for as many prints as I wanted so I got 3 sets.
Be aware that you can send in multiple prints with 1 application to the FBI so that in case they can not read your prints they have others to choose from. This can prevent your prints from being rejected and being sent back to you and delaying your FBI clearance by months.

It currently is taking offically 13 weeks to get the clearnance, however I recieved mine in 7 weeks.
Also I did my fingerprints on regular computer paper and only sent 1 set and I had no problems with my prints being accepted.
If you prefer cardstock most fingerprinting places and police stations should have them.
Make sure to get tracking on the package you send to the FBI, so you can prove that it was recieved.

For the state police clearance (minnesota) I did not need any fingerprints just has to show my ID, I got my state clearance the same day

I know you can download and print the fingerprinting form on the regular printer paper (and FBI said they accept it) but I would recommend the usual fingerprinting paper since I have heard some who did on the regular printer papers and got rejected for poor quality. I went to the State police and they already had fingerprinting cards for me to buy.

I guess each state does it differently. I am from Maryland and it required the fingerprinting. Call the number under your state to see what you need for the clearance. Wish mine didn't have to require the prints! Nice, the same day!

You do not need clearances from the individual states he has lived in, at all, unless other wise asked for (and I'm very very certain they won't be asked for). You only need the FBI background check.

It is currently taking at least 13 weeks to receive the clearance from the time they receive your application, and right now mine has taken 18 weeks and others have had it take just as long.

He only needs clearances from any countries that he has lived 6+ months in.

FBI background checks always require fingerprinting, states have nothing to do with it since it's a federal agency.

You can use regular paper, but when I had mine done at a local sheriff's office they had the actual card stock for me to use and said they would charge me either way, so I used the card stock. I would assume you have a greater chance for quality issues with regular paper. You should sent at least 2 sets of fingerprints with your application to the FBI. Be sure to include payment.

Just to repeat, the FBI clearance has absolutely nothing to do with any individual state clearances.
