Hi there,

My passport and my birth certificate have my father's name as e.g John Smith but my father's passport has two additional words as a middle name in his given name, so his given name is e.g: 'John LL TT' and Last name is 'Smith'. Would this be a problem when I apply for my father's visa?

You can prepare a legal document that says your father, John Smith, also known as, John LL TT Smith. Afterwards include the legal document with the rest of the documents in the visa application.

It is hard to suggest without your immigration background. What did you put your father's full name when you applied for your Permanent Residency in case you have immigrated to Canada.
Stick to the name of your father what you have put in your immigration application file.
If it is matching with the name what you have on your Birth Certificate then ask your father to get it fixed on his passport.
If it is not matching with what you have put on your immigration application then prepare an legal document as suggested above.

I am permanent resident here and I had added my Father's name with the one I have on my passport & birth certificate in my application. Not sure how difficult it would be to update my father's passport, I will look into it. Or Legal document seems to be a good option too.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the suggestion, I will contact a lawyer and check about this.

It's not ideal but it's not that unusual. Personally I'd suggest applying under his name as in passport and include info and letter of explanation.

I don't think legal docs needed to support this - again, it's not that unusual.

And his name as in your docs is the least official of these. Changing his passport to match eg your birth certificate is silly.

oh ok, yeah you are right, the LOE is all that may be required. I am just being extra cautious to avoid any delays or rejections. Thanks for the reply.

I would suggest preferably try o get an passport with corrected name for your father, depending upon your country , generally one has to put a notice to change the name in the news paper and then after three months he can apply for the passport with a new name.

You're really suggesting his father should legally change his name to deal with a missing middle name from his son's documents?

That's nuts.

Also if passport has the wrong height, please be sure to talk to a qualified surgeon to correct that.
