Hi there,

I'm a Canadian citizen and intent to apply for visitor visa for my father. He has no international travel history.
My father is 70 year old .
I have following questions:

1. Does my father needs to go through any medical test or buy medical insurance in India when applying for visitor visa?

2. My father is retired. He does own property and car but none is on his name. What documents can I include to show his strong ties to India.
P.S I'm showing funds in his bank account and his pension certificate

3. My father has to apply for visitor visa at consulate in New Delhi India?

If someone can please help me with my questions.

Thank you

Your father may be required to do a medical. It is highly advisable that you purchase emergency travel insurance if he travels to Canada unless you are a millionaire who could absorb a bill of a few hundred thousand dollars easily. If none of the property is in his name he doesn’t actually own it. I would try to find other ties. Does he have to return annually to return annually to receive his pension? Aprroximately how much funds is he able to show? Cash funds are the most important. How long is he wanting to visit?

Hi Canuck,

Thank you for your reply.

1. He receives pension directly in his bank account

2. How about showing $10,000-15,000 CAD in his account in fixed deposits. Is there any criteria or minimum that should be shown in the bank account or fixed deposits? He doesn't have much running cash in bank a/c. Mostly in fixed deposits

3. My dad is widower and my siblings are old. He only intents to visit Canada for 1 months. How to show strong ties to India in this scenario?

Thank you

2. He can only show what he has. Some cash is preferred because visitors are expected to show that they can cover the cost of their travel and be able to get home and get a hotel if there is family breakdown while in Canada. If he has no property in his name, nor children, etc. it is tough to provide many ties. You know your father’s situation. Basically anything that shows his toes to his home country and why he will return home.

There are different ways to show that your father has ties to India. Mostly through children and grandchildren dependent on him. He should get the visa definitely if you put a strong case. A strong Invitation letter makes or breaks the case I have noticed.
