Faster in Egypt or Canada?

Hi Everyone,

I am a Canadian citizen who married my Egyptian husband in Feb of this year (in Egypt). I want to know if the sponsorship process would go by easier/faster if I was in Egypt with him, or if I stay in Canada? Also if we are apart for more than one year does that make him ineligible for sponsorship?

Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Ameenah

Where you are won't make any difference for the timeline, in most cases. But if you stay in Egypt you will have to provide proof in the application that you will go back to Canada to live when your husband gets his visa. Sometimes people are refused the visa because the visa officer does not believe that the Canadian spouse will go back to Canada. So it is easier and requires less proof if you are back in Canada.
However, actually living with your spouse is good evidence that your marriage is genuine.
For me, since you two have been living together since February, it would be better to go back to Canada to apply. You can always visit him while the application is being processed.
Even if you are apart for more than a year, it doesn't matter. He can still be sponsored.

you will have to apply outland either way so as canadianwoman said it really dosnt matter, living apart from him wont make him ineligible but it would be harder to prove your marriage is genuine especially if hes required to have an interview. my husband lives in egypt aswell and what im doing is just visiting him when i get the chance since its very easy to get a visa there.

Thank you! I've never done this before so it's all so confusing. I'm actually back in Canada now that's why I was asking if it's ok if we are apart for over a year.

well,

you have to be carefull! Because if you go live with him, you have to list that u are Canadian citizen living exclusively outside of Canada which then you will need a proof that you will return to canada.

If you are working, take a leave of absence, go live with him for 3 months, etc. Provide the documents that you took a leave of absence to live with him for a while, etc.

I was already in Canada, when they asked to prove that I will return to Canada so it was easy for me but if you can't provide an offer of employment, acceptance letter from university etc, then I think you should stay in Canada. (sometimes you can't get these really fast so this will delay your application more). It delayed my application for a month and some time. :)
