Hey folks,

So I qualify for the new FSWP (points>67) based on education (MS in the US) and work experience (5+ yrs). We all know that it takes 3 years of living in Canada and a PR status to get Canadian citizenship. Realizing that it takes about 1-1.5 yrs to get FSWP based PR to Canada, I was thinking of a faster way to get Canadian citizenship.

My plan is:
1. Get study permit to Canada and enter Canada asap.
2. apply for FSWP based PR either from home country or Canada (depending on the date you enter and quota status).
3. Wait for FSWP to get approved and study in Canada
4. Within 3 years you have the PR and citizenship instead of possibly 5 yrs from now

All this is assuming that you can afford a year of school in Canada (find some vocational course of 1 year duration)

What do you guys think of this?

Just to be clear, it takes three years of living in Canada to QUALIFY to apply for citizenship. The processing time for a citizenship application takes another two years after you qualify to apply and submit the application (assuming there are no complications with your file).

Two of the three years required to qualify for citizenship must be accumulated AFTER you become a PR. You can count up to one year before you became a PR towards your citizenship residency application. However each day spent in Canada before you became a PR only counts as half a day for citizenship purposes.

Long story short - you won't be a citizen in three years. Best case scenario is five years to citizenship.
