If im understanding this correctly your brother is inviting you?

If so
1) your brother should address it to immigration officer stating he is inviting you
2) if he his saying that he is covering any of your expenses then he should provide some funds from his side
3) you should write whatever is the truth, whatever is your intended purpose of visit
4) 100% yes! If you are the person who is applying for a visitor visa you must show the ability to pay for the trip. Your finances are much more important than your brothers. People often confuse a letter of invitation to be a "sponsorship"...that is not the case. The letter of invitation is not legally binding, you must show your own finances.

It is pretty late to apply for Christmas especially since you shouldn’t purchase tickets until you know whether your visa has been approved. For a family of 4 you should at least have 15-20k in savings. It doesn)5 make sense to spend a significant amount of your savings to visit Canada for 1-2 weeks. Have you travelled internationally before? To countries like the US, Australia, UK, etc.a? Do you have a good longterm job and property? Travelling with your whole family is also harder than getting approval for a single person.
