Hi All,

Let's have a discussion on parents sponsorship. I started the process of sponsoring my parents back in 2008. Now the file is in Canadian Consulate General in New York. Meds were requested in July 2012. It has been 3 months since the meds were sent.
Anyone else is in the similar situation? Any idea on the processing times for NY?

Thank you.

I can't seem to find similar thread anywhere. There is one for Parents sponsorship, but no on has documents in New York. Please share your experience...

Thanks,

Based on your timeline and compared to those of others at other LVOs ,3 months is early days for hearing anything yet. Most people even at Ottowa Pilot have waited longer than that after medicals and some are still waiting for medicals. The thread with the title (Parents sponsership joine here) is the one where you'll find the most relevant information, even if there is no one else posting whose case is at the New York Consulate. You might be lucky and be processed soon or you might need to be patient. You can also add your timeline and see other timelines on the above thread as someone has been kind enough to set that up so that you can see how your case sits in relation to others. Hope it helps,it certainly helped me when I was waiting.

Surely that's not the thread if she applied in 2008.

Thank you Nanapush. I am actively reading this thread, but almost everyone has their documents in Ottawa. I am not sure how fair it is to compare.

I will try to be patient as well :)

Thanks,

I would suggest you post on the other thread and ask the same questions on there. It's a very active forum .There are many people who visit that thread throughout the day and you'll usually get a response quite quickly. Quite a lot of people you will see on the spreadsheet are being processed at LVOs.

Kandel, who posts regularly is a good example of who can help you with the timeline on the spreadsheet.

Just ask the question as a newcomer to the forum and see what happens. Have you looked at the spreadsheet.?

I just realised looking at your timeline that I believe the Buffalo office closed recently and all cases were transferred to Ottowa.

Hi Nanapush,

Thank you for your advise. To be honest, I am very confused. When I applied, I asked for my case to be processed by Buffalo. Since, it was closed the letter requesting medicals came from Consulate in New York, NY. When my parents completed their meds, I know that the doctor sent it to Ottawa, but I am not sure if it stays in Ottawa, or if they transfer it back to New York.
I was not able to find anyone with similar situation on the forum.

I found some applicants here who received a reply after sending meds in 3 months, and some in over 9 months. I guess, it cannot be predicted :(

Also, if I check the processing time of New York Consulate on CIC website for Step 2 - it says 40 months, which is very discouraging too.

I will keep browsing the forum. Thanks for your help.

If you go back onto the CIC website and click on the New York processing time link it takes you to Frequently asked questions. It also refers to Buffalo as Buffalo -New York and there is a link for contacting Ottowa on the same page which might suggest that it is Ottowa dealing with your case.
In our case we were processed in Ottowa but when the decision was made on 2nd stage approval after medicals we had to send passport details to our LVO which is London for issuance of our COPR.
I suspect that maybe after the decision is made in your case you will then have to submit passport or, (if visa exempt) ,the data pages of passports to the New York Consulate for issuance of your COPR.
You may want to contact Ottowa and check if that's the procedure but again if you ask for advice on the other thread you may get some better ,more informed replies than mine without contacting Ottowa. I don't think anyone has picked up on your thread as they mainly post on that one so you probably need to take your questions to that wider audience. I wouldn't worry too much about the 40 months issue as the visas should be issued before the medical validity expires so that landing can take place while medicals are still valid. You'll most probably get approval within the next few months if medicals have been approved.

How long are medicals valid for?
