Just a side note if you choose to change to Outland, I'm not sure if the NZ police check is one that causes you headaches but you don't get the actual certificate from NZ you just send in permission for CIC to obtain it on your behalf. Form is on CIC website, I am on my phone so can't post link. So there is no waiting for that one. You also don't need a Canadian one. You may have already known this though.
yeh this happened when I first applied for my IEC, it was a bit confusing as its different from all the rest of the police checks

Thanks!

You won't qualify for an open work permit until you have first stage approval. Given current processing times, you're looking at September next year before you'll be able to apply.
yeh this is starting to dawn on me, never should have called the call centre, should have came here first!

ok thanks. Im just trying to figure out if it would be better to wait for the inland application to come through, or bin it and hope the outland one is processed in 6 months like someone mentioned earlier

if the OWP I sent separately from my PR app is actually accepted, would this mean that I could work from when my IEC finishes, as its a different work permit and not the extension of the IEC?

No, OWP can only start after Stage 1 approval. For you, that could mean August or September 2015, or later... processing times are changign drastically lately, so no one can predict how long it will be, unfortunately.

Even if you had sent the open work permit with your original application - you'd still be in effectively the same situation (i.e. unable to work for several months) since IEC visas cannot be extended and therefore don't benefit from implied status. If you want to continue working past the expiry of your IEC, you would need to have a new work permit in hand before the IEC expires (this would involve having your employer get an approved LMIA and then applying for a closed work permit yourself).

You should withdraw and apply outland. You can apply outland while living in Canada. There's no need for you to leave.
false you can still continue to work past your IEC on implied status, I have been for the last 10 months now...

Hey James, so did you get confirmation that your OWP was accepted, or have you just continued working regardless?

yeh I have the AOR but sent my OWP separately, so im not too sure what position im in
You just have visitor status then if your current work permit has expired.

You can only continue to work if you applied for a OWP and PR at the same time in the same application.

Just as you have found that different people at the call centre are incorrect with their advise, the same can be said with people on this forum. Before you decide to follow any advise, I suggest you do some research. One way is to look at peoples ratings, when they have significantly more negative feedback than positive, you may just want to take that into consideration. Just my two cents.

surely though if the OWP was sent with the PR app, once the IEC expires, the OWP should then begin, seeing as its a different type of work permit? that's what the call centre said numerous times

this whole thing is a mess lol
