Hi there, my hubby and I will sponsor both of our parents in 2016. We have one son born in 2013 and another one this year. So for IMM5768 Q7, total number of persons would be 8. I am not quite sure if our income in 2012 is enough. Our total income in 2012 is $84K which is not enough for size of 8. But my kids were born in 2013 and 2015. do they count in 2012 for income request? If not, our 2012 income is enough for size of 6.

really appreciate if someone can answer my question.

thx

Well if you are sponsoring both sets of parents, and you have two kids, that would put your family size at 8. Once that happens, and you haven't submitted the parent sponsorship application yet, then unfortunately, the income required for a family of 8 must be met for ALL of the previous 3 years. If your family size was 6 in 2012, it doesn't matter now that you're currently sitting at 8 for family size, that means your 2012, 2013, 2014, etc incomes will have to be enough for a family size of 8.

Also you cannot choose to sponsor just one parent from either your husband's or your side to reduce the family size, must sponsor and include the mom/dad as a group. You could also choose to sponsor your husband's parents only and not your own parents, or vice versa, then your family size would just be 6.

If you wish to sponsor all of them however, then I hope your income for 2013 is at least $88,301, 2014 at least $89,626, and 2015 at least $91,000 (that's just my estimate), because that's what you'll likely need to sponsor them.

I've since edited my post about you possibly excluding one set of parents to reduce your family size to 6, re-read it again.

No it makes no difference, since they are your kids, they're your dependents, so they must be included in the family size calculation.

Our income after 2012 were much higher than requested, but just short $1K in 2012 unfortunatly. Thanks for your advise. It is hard for us to convince each other not sponsoring one set of parents. :'(

Just make sure your incomes are sufficiently high for 2013-2015. You'll have to wait until Jan 2017 to apply. Also remember that should you have another child from now until January 2017, your family size will be 9, therefore, your incomes from 2013-2015 must meet the family size for 9.
