Changing your name is absolutely your choice not obligation, but his name won't appear on your immigration papers.

in my point of view you should not change you last name until you husband gets his PR.

Its not mandatory, but makes you life easy.

if you change your last name, it will trigger changes in your travel document, and all other supporting document, and you need to get them notarized

in my case when i was sponsoring my wife after we got married, i applied for her Immigration within two months and she did not change her last name,

She changed her last name at the time of her citizenship,

You don't have to change your name - actually I would advise against it until after the PR goes through! It's a pain in the butt to change your name on all legal documents and takes quite a while. I kept my maiden name and nobody has batted an eye.

My wife's country Indonesia doesn't even have "family" names. She has 3 names, none of them shared with the rest of her family. Needless to say, she didn't take my last name. And we applied just fine.

I personally did not get my wife to change her last name to mine due to two reasons:

- Possible issues with paper work during the process.
- My last name was translated from Ukrainian to English, as she is Russian the translation would be incorrect to have it done on her official documents upon marriage. We're waiting until she has status here before doing so, making sure the name is changed correctly.

It's not worth the hassle just for a name change. Wait until everything is finalized before proceeding with the change of a surname.
