Family class sponsorship - outland

Hi there,

My girlfriend/fiance is a canadian citizen and we have been living together for 5 years. I am Italian but have been living in Canada for 7 years as an international student. Me and my fiance have lived in the same apartments together for 5 years and we are planing to get married. I finished my degree in June 2013 and was offered an interesting internship opportunity in Rome Italy which i took. its a 6 month internship and I will be going back to Canada to be with my fiance when my internship is finished. We have also decided to apply for a family-class sponsorship as soon as I arrive in Canada. I will be going to Canada as a visitor and I am only allowed 6 months to stay there.

Lets say I apply outland while i am in Canada. Does this mean that i have to go to Italy in case they want to interview me or will i be able to do an interview in Canada and save the cost of buying a plane ticket? and will i be allowed access back into Canada after I do the interview? and how long does the outland process usually take for Italy?

With the inland application process am i allowed to leave with my fiance to go on a holiday (for example: go to dominican republic for 7 days)?

You can apply immediately as common-law. You could have applied 4 years ago for PR if you wanted to.
I also hope that you and your gf have been doing Canada taxes jointly as common-law couple for the past 4 years.

Why are you waiting?? You are already common-law, so just apply outland now through Rome Italy office, and do your internship while you are waiting for processing.

If outland process is done through Rome office, then any potential interview MUST be done in Italy.

Yes, for visa-exempt travelers this is usually not a problem.

The average time for 50% of apps seems to be around 8-10 months.

With an inland app, it is not advised to leave Canada for ANY reason whatsoever (including vacation) for the approx 19 month processing time. If for any reason you weren't allowed back into Canada, your entire inland app is cancelled.
