Hi,

My Father met with an accident 30 years back and is 100% handicapped i.e. he is wheelchair bound and have lost sensation below his stomach. Though he can take care of himself and also drives a car. Would he be able to get Canadian Citizenship if i have a PR/Citizenship of Canada. I am the only son and both my parents are dependent on me.

Appreciate your reply..

Thanks
Am

None of us here can say for certain. You can certainly try. He may or may not be approved.

If you meet the requirements to sponsor your parents, you can certainly enter the lottery. If you are selected, then you can certainly try sponsoring your father. However due to his condition, you should expect that CIC will deem him to be a burden to Canada's medical and health care system and indicate they plan to refuse him. If this happens, you'll receive a fairness letter which will give you an opportunity to argue that the costs to Canada's health care and social care systems of your father's annual care fall under $6,500 per year.

So absolutely possible to try sponsoring him - but impossible for any of us to guess the chances of success. Based on your description, it sounds like he's paralyzed from the waist down. If that's the case, then unfortunately I think it will be extremely difficult to get his application approved and the chances of a refusal are quite high.

Thanks a lot for your reply...I hope for the best.

Any Idea of how much the average insurance cost would be for him in Canada, he is 60 years old.

Do you mean insurance as a visitor to Canada? I don't know for sure - however I imagine it would be quite high due to his injury.

If he gets PR, he would not need insurance since he would be covered under the health care system.
