Hi All,

I'm due to apply for my citizenship at the end of Sept. 2012 however my wife (having PR status) will have to wait till December to file her application.

My question is that should I wait for her (till December) so that we can apply together for Citizenship or should I apply earlier. In other words, is there any benefit in applying together as a Family.

Thanks.

The only real benefit is that you take the test and the oath at the same time. But if one fails, then it delays the other's application.

Hi,

Just a friendly advice : Pls don't file together or wait just go with the flow. If your time is up go ahead and send your docs for citizenship as waiting won't do good. I did that and since Aug 2009 I have been waiting to get my oath as they want my spouse to appear before the Judge for final processing and our files have been dragged too (although all procedures have been completed on ours including security checks twice). So submit yousrs and then when your family's time is up then go for thiers. Good Luck.

one thing you need to consider, some times cic well have doubts when a husband or wife apply alone and this might
trigger an rq. but in the mean time the same might happen if you apply together.
it is totally deferent from case to case, so what ever you decide ... good luck.

Both options has pros and cons.

As @taco mentioned, if CIC notices that husband and wife with the same address applying separately, they might get suspicious and it might trigger an RQ.

As @Rosebud mentioned, the whole family will be delayed if one application is being delayed.

It depends on details of each case. So there is no simple answer to which option is better.

But since there is 3 months difference, I would simple go ahead and apply as there is an explanation for applying separately.

I agree with ajaslp
I applied as family because we had same time, otherwise I would also apply separately.
