Folks, we have applied for citizenship as a family i.e. I have had all family members applications in one envelope and it been accepted.
So now, I would like to know what are the positive and negative sides of that kind of application. Please share your personal experience.
Thanks in advance.

I know for kids below 18 they don't require residency obligation. so it means if we separate the file kids can get their application processed fast?

Well as per knowledge kids under 18 cannot apply on their own .Only an eligible parent could include their application as part of their application or could apply for their citizenship once he/she gains his /her own .

If one of the Family's applications has a problem, CIC can separate the applications so not all of them are delayed now. Relatively recent change.

Well you could separate your spouse's (or any kid's who is more than 18 ), file/s but you cannot separate your minor kids' ones.

Oh, really. that is good news, when they started doing that? Was that your case?
I dont really want my wife or kids get stuck in the process in case I will get a RQ or whatever.

Also, applying as a family, does it require us to take citizenship exam and an oath on the same day or CIC can schedule those separately, assuming all is going good without RQ? Thanks.

It wasn't my case. I came across this bulletin http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2013/ob529A.asp
I also seem to remember one of the ministers being quoted about increased file splitting to try and get more applications processed quicker.

We applied as a family in August 2013 and our oath date is on 24th June 2014. We never received any RQ so I think if your papers are okay then it really doesn't matter. On the other hand, one of our friends' family applied separately but on the same day, the husband already had his test but the wife is still waiting for the same so you never know. On the same note, so far this family was never questioned by CIC for applying separately.
