Hello,

After graduating in my diploma, I applied for a PGWP which I got for 2 years instead of 3 years due to the expiration date on my passport. My current work permit is set to expire on Feb 2016. I would like to extend my current work permit through 'flag polling' as it saves time which is a luxury I do not have as my work permit expires in 4 months.

On my old passport- I still have a valid TRV expiring at the same date as my current work permit(Feb 2016).
I have my new passport which is valid for 10 years or so.

Can I extend my current work permit through the border(I live in Vancouver)?
Do I require some sort of LMIA or not?

Can somebody please advice as to what I can do to make this successful? Thank you.

1. Is your TRV under worker category or student?

2. Do you have a positive LMIA or PNP nomination letter or AOR (if you have applied for PR)

You can only extend your WP if you meet CIC requirements. Let me know about question 1 and 2 so I can provide you more details.

1- My TRV is under worker. I have not been a student for 2 years now.
2- I do not have a LMIA or PNP. I have an Post Graduate Work Permit which is open for me to work under any employer which means I dont need a LMIA right?

Am I missing something here?

Simply explain them in a letter or verbally ( if applying at border or in person, but i would recommend in written) that you had been issued a PGWP for 2 years instead of 3 just because of passport validity and they will extend it for another year or so...hope this helps ..Good luck

I did talk a CIC agent. They recommended in mailing the application as this situation cannot be done at the border. They have also recommended not to do this 4 months ahead but to wait till its like 30 days or something.

What do you guys advice?

Ohk. I thought you want to extend your work permit through other programs like PNP approved Nominee/PR applicant etc.

Anyways, you can give it a try at border since you have a valid status and can come back to Canada. You might get it for another year there if you are lucky.

OR

Mail your application after October because I think we can apply for a new work permit if our current one is about to expire within 4 months but it could be different in your case since you did not get your WP for three years initially.

Good luck
