Extension of SIN?

My partners application has been given a processing number which means his Open work visa is no extended until the application is accepted.
My question now is how do we go about renewing his SIN number as it was set to expire alongside the old Work visa.

It will expire in October currently.

You can't extend a SIN, but if your partner is on implied status, they can still work with an expired SIN. That's what I'm currently doing and have no problems
