Hi I need some advise on getting an extension on my visitors visa.

I am from the UK and met my husband on an years working holiday to canada. we married in januray this years and went back to canada together in may. I was given a 6 month visitors visa on problem on arrival in vancouver and the officer at the airport said that if we hadn't had the permanment residency papers back by the time the 6 months was up i could apply for an extension to my visitors visa. The problem is that it has taken a wile to come up with the money for the immigration and now we have the money we have realised that we have to wait until after my husbands family maintaince hearing. (he was unemployed for a period last year so got in behind on child support payments) my husband has a well paying job now and this will get sorted no problem but it's all taking longer then we thought, so by the time we need to apply for an extension we might not have even submitted the permenant residency paper. does anyone know what would help in our submission to extend? and how likely we are to get the extension? i really don't want to be appart from my husband for 6 months.....

You are right, nobody wants to be separated, but many people are.
Sadly nobody can guarantee you will get the visa extension, all you can do is apply, provide the reasons, be truthful and hope for the best.

The good news is that visa extensions take about 90 days to process at present, so you will be allowed to remain in Canada under "implied status" until a decision is reached.

If you entered Canada in May 2010 you need to get the extension in ASAP.

Why do you believe that you would have to be apart for six months?

I am a Brit married to a Canadian and have received one visa extension already.
I returned to the UK after our wedding (work commitments) for a couple of months and then traveled back to Canada. I am now applying for another visa extension.
My PR will be sent during December, in my visa extension application I will include my receipt for the PR payment even though the forms have not been submitted.

Be optimistic :)
