Extending Visitor Visa for Spouse

Hi there,

My wife is in Canada on visitor visa since Mid April. I have applied for her sponsorship as well and it is in process. Its unlikely that her PR will come through this September, so I wanted to apply to get her visitor Visa extended for an additional 6 months so she can continue to stay with me and hopefully her sponsorship comes through by end of the year so she does not have to leave the country.

My question is when should I apply for her extension? She entered Canada in mid April so Should I wait until 1st week of September to apply for her extension or should I apply for it sooner like in July?

The processing time for visa extension currently shows 87 days! So I am afraid that if I wait until Sept to apply for this then I wont get the extension until December and by then she would over stay the 6 months allowed.

Any advise on when I should apply for extension would be appreciated. Thank you!

What happens of the status expires and the extension has still not come through, given the processing time is 88 days?

Is there any drawback to applying for extension more than 30 days before expiry of status?

It can be refused due to applying too early.
