Extending visitor status while waiting for Spouse sponsorship process.

I have been in Canada for almost a year with an extended Visitor's Visa and my wife is a Canadian Citizen for 24 years.
My wife and I sent the Sponsorship family class application package to immigration in Mississauga 2 weeks ago, which has been received but it has not been entered in the system yet. My Visitor's Visa will expire November 20. I was told to keep renewing the Visitor's Visa every 6 months to keep a status.
We were in the process of renewing my Visitor's Visa on line today and when answering the Eligibility questions, instead of choosing "Visit for 6 months" ...i chose "move here- permanently & married to a Canadian Citizen (since it is the truth and the option is there). It automatically downloaded the Family class application form to be filled since I am eligible to apply as a family class (spouse). Therefore it didn't let me extend my Visitors Visa. Actually, the option to extend the Visitor's Visa disappeared.
I deleted the Family class application form since we already sent it via courrier 2 weeks ago.
Now we can see the option to extend the visitor's visa again.
Should I fill the application again as a "Visitor's Visa for 6 months" just to keep the Visitor's status, even though the reality is that I have been sponsored by my wife to stay permanently in Canada? I don't want to make any mistakes. I will appreciate your advice. Thank you.

Until you receive your PR, you are always visiting. When you encounter IRCC or contact them, or if you encounter CBSA officials you are always visiting. Never give them the opportunity to question that you are a visitor and you know what that entails until your application is complete.

We have also applied for Permanent Residence for my spouse who is currently here on a visitor visa. Do you have any tips or info on extending your visitor visa since you have already done it successfully? Some of these questions feel like... a trap? They ask for his residential address but will only allow Canadian addresses (I assume they want mine since he is staying with me?) since he is extending a visitor visa - his "real" residence is in the US though. He has a job, but he does not work in Canada, but I'm worried simply saying he has one will make it seem like he is working here. They ask for his UCI at the top but he has two - one was given on his last entry and one was given for his permanent resident application. Also none of the dates allow us to enter anything like "current"... I want it to be correct but I think I'm driving myself a little nuts ???

Yes, they just want the address of where he is staying in Canada.

Saying he has a job won't make them think he works here illegally. Many visitors in Canada are still employed, either in their own country or online outside of Canada.

I would use the one from the PR app.

Put the date that you send the app.

Thank you! To clarify, I don't honestly think like they are trying to trap me, the way the questions are just make it feel that way :)
