My spouse and I are currently in Canada on a Sper Visa which expires in 2021. Our current stay in Canada will end in June 2014, and that date has been stamped in our passports.
When we originally applied for our Super Visas we were under the impression that we could extend our stay for a further 24 months from within Canada.( News release dated November 2011). I have recently been advised that we need to exit Canada for a period of 3 months and apply to re enter. Can anyone help me with this question or direct me to a web etc to find the answer. I have looked at the CIC web and am still not quite sure.

When you enter canada on supervisa and officer only stamps the arrival date then you can live upto 2 years, but if they write a specific date under it ( typically 6 months from entry ) then you must request extension and since you came on supervisa and never got 2 years, your extension request should be straight forward
Unless you already lived here for 2 years and asking another 2 years

Thank you for your reply and apologies that I never stated that in June 2014 we would have been here for 2 years. Do we need to exist Canada after that or can we apply to extend our stay before the 24 months is up? The news release for Nov 2011 on the cic web states that we can stay for 24 months and then apply to extend our stay for further 24 months. Not sure if that can be from Canada or not.

Won't allow me to post a link. :-[ But can be found on cic web under new releases dated 2011-11-04 and backgrounders the same date.
I have copied and pasted the sentence that I am refering to.
......" At the end of the 24 months, they can apply to extend their status for up to 24 months. These applications will be examined on a case by case basis."

Sure you can apply for ext, I believe they might need to get meds done and a good explanation for extended stay. You can request 2 years if you want, they might give UPTO 2 years, apply for it like regular visa extension request online

[/I have gone onto the CIC website and looked up how to extend stay in Canada. There is a questionairre to complete and it gives an indication as to whether we qualify to apply for an extention or not. I am going to apply before June 2014 and hope that they accept and approve my request. Fingers crossed. Good luck with your enquiries. Please share their answer with me. Many Thanks.]

Hi Ninny,

You definitely do NOT need to exit Canada if you would like to extend your stay through Super Visa as long as you satisfy the requirements, such as a one-year medical insurance. Good luck.

YYZguy416......
Thank you for reply. Our present stay ends in June 2014 and I am thinking that I will apply for an extention around March/April, just to make sure that we get an answer before June. I see that the present wait period is 25days if we apply on line. Much longer if we apply on paper and then post.

Hi , apologies to barge in a different conversation but need some help on supervisa here
My dad is here on visitor visa which will expire in October 2014. I want to apply his supervisa from within Canada, but lets suppose if he gets his stay extended for 2 years (supervisa). Will he need to do a country out to validate his supervisa (or do a flagpole) or will he be getting a visitor record for 2 years in which case there is no need to do a country out. He does not have a visitor visa to USA if he has to do a country out and i dont want to send him back to india just to step out and back in to canada.

Any help is much appreciated!
