Extending Stay as a Visitor with expired visitor's visa

Hi everyone,
My mother in law (Ukrainian citizen) is currently staying with us as a visitor. Her visa and passport are expiring in March. We would like to extend her stay, so she can babysit our 2 year old through the pandemic. We received a new passport for my mother in law in Ukrainian embassy. However, it appears that we cannot apply for a new visitor visa for her from inside Canada. Going back to Ukraine and applying for a new visa is probably a 1-3 months project and we cannot stay w/o babysitting for this long.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to apply for a new visitor's visa from within Canada? We would really appreciate any suggestions.

P.S. My wife and I work full time and it is very difficult(impossible) for us to take time off. Our kid likely will be sent home all the time with a runny nose or light cough if we send her to daycare as she has not been around other kids much before.

Why cant you apply for visitor visa in Canada?

Would add that your MIL babysitting would be considered working illegally so can not be used as a reason to stay. At a certain point her extensions will be denied so you should be looking at other options. A home daycare with a few children ay a good option.

She needs to apply for an extension to her stay, not a new visa.

No, follow the link provided above she can extend her stay in Canada, you might not want to bring up the whole babysitting thing, there have been suggestions on here that that is considered work and would therefore require a work permit but don't know if that's true.

Thank you. Do you by any chance know if I can specify the stay extension date beyond the old passport expiry date (the one which has the TRV)? Or should I just apply using the new passport?

No, follow the link provided above she can extend her stay in Canada, you might not want to bring up the whole babysitting thing, there have been suggestions on here that that is considered work and would therefore require a work permit but don't know if that's true.

It is considered work because otherwise a person with the ability to work in Canada would be paid to care for the child.

Hi!Sorry I am new to this open forum.I would like to ask if you were able to apply a visitors visa for your mother in law..We have the same situation.My mother in law visitors visa will expire this coming march..
