I am coming to Canada to visit my boyfriend for a couple of weeks with a view to staying longer. What would be the requirements
for me to stay longer, do I need to prove I have money, how long can I stay, what questions would they ask and what are my chances? ???

I'm from the UK

Hi Loopy,

1. Check your passport stamp by the Border Agency Officer at the point of entry to Canada. Is there an expiry date to the stamp? If there is no expiry date to your visitor visa at all, means you were automatically granted a 6 months' stay at entry.

2. If there is an expiry date, then apply before it expires should you wish to stay longer than the expiry date. You are from the UK, you should be able to do that online, if need be. If this is the case, remember to apply for the extension BEFORE your expiry. Give yourself a minimum of one week prior to the expiry, even though the immigration usually recommends 30 days before, as long as the extension got in before your expiry date, you are safe. In addition, you will be able to leave during implied status too.

Good luck!

make sure that you have enough funds on you and proof of ties to the UK. I am also from Europe and when i came to visit my boyfriend the CBSA officers asked a few questions, questions like if i am employed, if i have a return ticket, enough funds, if my boyfriend is employed and whats the name of his company.... so make sure to be prepared :) ..... i just answered all questions truthfully and it worked.

as Loopy said, check your passport stamp, i always got exactly 6 months to stay and when you want to extend your stay send your application 30 days before your status expires. here is the link ---> http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

good luck !

sunny you mean as poppyweise said HAHAHAHAHA. Loopy is the one asking the question I suppose.

but anyways, yup. I submitted my extension only about 2 weeks before my expiration date and I got a reply in less than 10 days saying it was approved.

CIC website says it is RECOMMENDED to apply 30 days before expiry. but just get it in before your expiry date should be fine.
