Extending a visitor visa while waiting for PR approval

Hi everyone,

I am looking for some help with information and thoughts visitor visa extension.

Quick background - My partner (Canadian) and I (EU citizen, visa exempt for Canada) applied for outland (London, UK) common law PR back in December last year. We had to come to Canada quicker (mid-May, 2018) than we initially planned due to his work commitments. I had no issues at the border and the agent even wished us good luck with our application. However, there hasn't been much movement with our case (last time we heard from them was March, 2018 to inform us I have passed my medicals) and I am starting to consider extending my visitor visa/eta just in case.
We are traveling to Europe for 10 days at the end of September. I am unsure if the agent would stamp another 6 months in good graces, when we explain our situation. Perhaps it is best to apply for visa extension now? My current 6 months expire in mid November. Upon checking the cic website, they advise applying 30 days before the status expires. Should that be understood as AT LEAST 30 days, or no more than 30 days prior the expiration.

Thanks and apologies for the rant!

An extension doesn't guarantee re-entry into Canada. since you are leaving Canada at the end of September, there's no point applying for an extension to your visit. That extension is effectively canceled as soon as you leave Canada.

Are you from the UK? I am sure when you leave and come back, the 6 months is reset again. However, you may be under more scrutiny this time.

Thank you!

Yes, I am. I am hoping that when we explain the situation to the officer at the border, they would be understanding. Thanks!
