Extending a tourist visa while waiting for PR

My wife's tourist visa will expire and we have yet to receive PR. Should I extend her tourist visa?

The application to extend a tourist visa seems stupid (as no one entering the country in the first place is asked to provide the documents listed: medical check and bank statements). It also costs 100$....I think we are paying enough for the pleasure of having the government sit on our documents for more the 6 months.

So, do I need to extend it and is there a better method than the nonsense that is on the CIC website?

If you want to do this the legal way and not cause any issues, yeah, you need to apply to extend it.

I found it ridiculous as well, we just had to renew my visitor visa for the 100$ and we're waiting on a decision made any day now because they've asked for the RPRF.

She needs to have status in Canada.

There are certain countries that require a medical but I'm fairly certain Visa exempt countries don't require a medical to extend a visitor visa.

Where is your wife from?

if she doesn't extend her visit, and she stays, she will then be out of status and in jeopardy of being removed from canada by cbsa. at that point, your lives will become a lot more difficult because she will not be able to return to canada for a specified amount of time, and if that happens, i'm sure $100 will seem like pennies compared to the financial burden that will cause. so yes, if she wants to stay for her processing, then she must apply to extend her stay.

if you tell them you have a pr application in process, then it's likely to be approved. i'm pretty sure you can also submit a copy of the medical exam she did for her pr application. also, it's not necessarily needed to submit the medical exam, i believe that is for certain countries. i'm sure you can find out more info about that on the visitor's thread, or even by asking on here.

it's your choice. does your wife want to live looking over her shoulder and stressing about being reportd to cbsa and deported, or would she rather you just pay the fee, submit the application and do things the right way? my guess, it's the latter. you are really playing with HER freedom by assuming you can just circumvent the laws, NOT yours!

No medical is required to extend an existing visitor's visa. Yes, you will need to extend it. I agree it's a joke, but there's no way around it.

I have done a visitor visa extension online recently and I was required to show I had done a medical exam in the last 12 months. I used the same as what I used for my PR application.
I know doing a paper version, it hasn't got that on the document checklist but you never know if they will ask for it while processing.
Definitely keep her in status.

That's because the online form is also used for acquiring visa statuses that are not extending an existing visa. If you are simply extending an existing visitor's visa, as the OP is, you don't need it

I did have to just extend my visitor visa and I was required to have a medical.

I'm confused. Are you saying that you were allowed to enter the country as a visitor without a medical exam and then required to submit to one when you sought to extend that original visa?

So you had to do two separate medical exams? One for your PR application and another one within the same 12 month period for your visitor's visa extension?

Inform yourself good first.

When I apply online for extension, they also ask me for medical, then I say what is this now,I already supply them with medical on my PR application. Then I call CIC ,and ask them. The lady was very polite and she explain me ,that if I answer question differently on submission, they ll not require medical.U answer always visit, and put 6months.I did it like that. And they extend my stay with no problem,in 10days.

No I used the exact same Medical Exam I used for my PR application because it was within the 12 month timeframe. I just emailed the physician to email me a copy of the form.

I did exactly that and I was required to submit the medical? How did/could you get around that?
