I am an EU passport holder who is in a common law relationship for two years with my Canadian girlfriend (relationship for 3 years). We returned to Vancouver in December after an extended time travelling, so my 6 months on arrival visa is up at the end of May. We are in the process of getting ready to apply for PR status but due to some circumstances probably won't until next year. I want to apply to have my visitor time extended and have been looking at the forms and want to make sure I am filling them out to the best of my ability, and ended up with a few questions:
-where it asks to answer if you are married or in a common law relationship and wants a date that this union started, I am assuming that this date we can pick, where the evidence is the most strong to support our claim? (i.e. the first time we were renting an apartment together since both our names are included).
-it asks for ‘the original purpose for coming into Canada’, not sure which answer would be better, ‘tourism’, or ‘other’ where we can fill in the explanation area that I was coming here so we could be together while my partner is working?
-where it asks ‘funds available for your stay’ and who is paying, we were wondering if it sounds better if it is ‘myself’, or ‘other’ where we can fill in that my partner helps support me during my stay, or something like it is jointly between myself/her.
Is this too much info for what they are asking? For our situation I am supporting myself but my partner pays more in some places and our money comes together so we wanted to answer whichever one would come across more strong for the extension.
-is there any way that if I am declined at this time for a visitor extension that it could harm my future PR application?
Just a bit of extra info we are planning to go away in September so I only need a temporary extension at this point.
