I'm from South Korea which is visa-exempt and my current 6 month visitor visa expires April 6, 2010. The problem is I only recently decided (this past weekend) I want to stay longer in Canada and eventually wish to enrol at a college in Toronto and made some great friends during my stay. I have 3 part question:
1. According to the CIC "extend your stay as visitor" guide, it states as a visitor I must apply for extension "at least" 30 days before my visitor visa expires. Well its already less than 30 days and I read that theres no point in attempting to apply. When I called CIC Call Center, the automated message stated I must pay $75 and apply "before" my visitor visa expires but no specific time period. Which is correct? Should I at least try to apply for an extension? I read a recent post where the applicant applied less than 30 days and still granted extension.
2. The same guide also mentions "Restoration of Status" application once my visitor visa expires and I have within 90 days to submit application and $200 fee and no guarantee it will be accepted. Does anyone have experience with this option to extend visitor visa? I assume I can at least stay in Canada past expire date until my application is accepted or denied. If denied and forced to leave Canada, will this negatively affect my future visit to Canada since I stayed with an expired visa?
3. Sorry...last question. On or before my visitor Visa expires, is it possible to go to leave Canada at CAN-US Border (eg. Buffalo) and re-enter at the Port of Entry and get a new Visitor Visa? Only reason I mentioned Buffalo because I was told to send my Study Permit Application (if needed) to CIC Office in Buffalo. The only major drawback is I will have used up a short US visit and cannot re-enter the US for 12 months.
I guess I should have figured this out in advance and not sure what my options are with little time left. Thanks!
